Following its time in Burleigh Heads, Jamie's Ministry of Food Queensland Mobile Kitchen will next visit Nerang.

The kitchen classroom on wheels will be setting up in Nerang from Monday 4th of September at Country Paradise Parklands. Bookings are open now viawww.jamiesministryoffood.com.au As the 21st location since it commenced its travels around Queensland in 2012, Jamie's Ministry of Food Queensland Mobile Kitchen will run two cycles of the five week basic cooking skills course including evenings and weekends.

The home cooking program includes Jamie's hints, tips and shortcuts for preparing healthy food from scratch using fresh ingredients which is of particular importance with less than 7% of Queenslanders eating the recommended daily serve of vegetables[1]

Based on Jamie Oliver's beliefs about cooking and the associated impact on healthy living, the basic home cooking course will deliver hands-on cooking classes led by a team of dedicated Food Trainers and local volunteers and covers information on ingredients, shopping, budgeting, meal planning and food preparation for basic cooking.

Country Paradise is unique in that it is the only parkland in the City of Gold Coast that is actually managed by the community. Country Paradise Association President Tim Wilson said, "The concept of Jamie's Ministry of Food fitted hand-in-glove with the strategic intent and purpose of the 30 acre parklands - giving people access to resources that enrich their lives in a natural and very community-spirited place. The whole place is about well-being - people feeling connected, safe and purposeful."

The program aims to inspire people to get back to basics in the kitchen. It's about teaching people to start cooking for themselves again by equipping them with some simple skills and knowledge to do so. The program inspires and empowers change in the way they and their families eat, and how they think about food.

Jamie's Ministry of Food Australia is delivered by The Good Foundation throughout Australia. Queensland Health provides funding to support the delivery of the program throughout Queensland and the Mobile Kitchen is supported by Stockland.

"Making Queenslanders the healthiest people in the world isn't a small goal but supporting important programs like Jamie's Ministry of Food is just one way we're working towards it," said Minister for Health and Ambulance Services, Cameron Dick.

"This program gives local residents an opportunity to learn basic food preparation and cooking skills and provides them with practical tips on healthy eating.

"Achieving a healthier lifestyle doesn't need to mean making huge changes all at once and it certainly doesn't have to be expensive. Cooking healthy meals at home is a great place to start which is what participants learn in this program.

"They'll also gain knowledge to help with grocery shopping and menu plans. Our own Healthier. Happier. campaign also empowers Queenslanders to make simple changes every day so they become habit," Mr Dick said.

Jamie's Ministry of Food Australia has been proven to work. A comprehensive 3.5 year evaluation funded by Queensland Health and conducted by Deakin University and University of Melbourne showed that participants who complete the cooking course purchased and consumed more vegetables, were more confident in cooking meals from scratch and spent less on take away foods.

Felicia Mariani, CEO, The Good Foundation and Jamie's Ministry of Food Australia said, "Aside from being a practical solution to the problems associated with diet-related disease, Jamie's Ministry of Food is a fun community focused educational activity so we look forward to visiting Nerang and engaging with the local community."
